PSA: Removing my selfhosted matrix server… For another selfhosted matrix server!

In my previous PSA: Deleting my Matrix server in the coming weeks blog post, I announced that I will retire my selfhosted matrix server. And indeed, I will delete it this Friday (tomorrow) or Saturday.
In the meantime, I tested an xmpp server: snikket. And while it was way lighter than running my matrix server, it had some issues. We (myself and the other people I share this service with) have not been convinced by it after a bit less than 2 weeks using it.
As I was not satisfied, I looked at alternative and decided that maybe instead of using the synapse heavy (bloated) server, I could try the lighter alternative dendrite. Dendrite is supposed to be the future official matrix server when it is ready. It is written in golang and was very easy to install and configure.
I’ll monitor it for a bit longer, but so far it seems to do the job. It is still in beta version and I’m sure there will be issues here and there, but so far everything works fine. And the promise of a lighter server has been kept. Other contacts I have on my servers were all happy to retrieve a more familiar chat environment/client(s).
So in short, seems that I’m back on matrix… But with a new address: @bacardi55:m.bacardi55.io. It is now on my contact page, but for how long? No one knows :D.
