Gaming week like it is 2004

I took last week (and yesterday) off, which was a nice break from work as usual. But did I go anywhere? Not this time! This time, events aligned nicely for some nerds activities: my partner went away for 2 weeks on the 20th and on the 21st, Factorio 2.0 was released as well as the new big extension space age! The announcement was a long time ago and the wait is finally over!

I’m a big fan of Factorio, even though it can be a real time sink (and that’s an euphemism!)… But it is the best game for engineers by engineers! And my brother and a friend of mine are both big fans as well. So, what started as a joke around “let’s do a Factorio gaming week for the release”… ended up not being a joke! It moved into a plan and into reality… So both of them came coming last week to go as far as we can with the new extension and the exploration of new planets :).

I can’t say we finished the game though, but it was not the ultimate goal. We ended up visiting and working on the first 3 new planets but didn’t go to Aquilo nor the next surprises. So the game is definitely not over yet… But Factorio is by essence a never ending game anyway.

We had a blast and it felt like 2004 again to spend a full week gaming, eating lots of junk food and sleeping at very weird hours. But the main goal was achieved: Having fun, spend some good time playing and at least visiting the 3 first new planets.

I didn’t do such things for a very long time (I guess since I stopped being a student? Or soon after?), and it was great remembering those times :). This post isn’t particularly interesting or informative, but I’m still excited about last week and wanted to write about it, so for once, I’ll keep a post short :).

Feel free to email me to share you experience playing the new extension, that could also be fun :-).
