Ideas for my blog

/!\ Warning: This article is older than 555 days, make sure the content is still relevant!

Capjamesg wrote a fun article about « 100 things you can do on your personal website ». This and Shellsharks’s website component checklist inspired this post. I also read responses like this post or that one for other ideas.

I’m thinking of doing a review of this list about every 3 or 6 months, we’ll see. But will be a good thing to see how this blog evolve in the near future and see if I’m going to keep up writing and updating this blog so much :).

I also transformed that post into a static /ideas page following the inspiration of Snarfed ideas page.

✅ Already Implemented

⭕ Will do at some point maybe

  • ⭕ indieweb.txt
  • ⭕ License
  • ⭕ Additional Content Type: Notes (+ RSS feed)
  • ⭕ BlogRoll / Webring
  • ⭕ Improve Accessiblity
  • ⭕ Check all broken links / images (from old blog version that may have been poorly imported)
  • ⭕ Display selected blog posts and gemini article on homepage instead of latest 5
  • ⭕ Create a dedicated IndieWeb static page to indicate IndieMark status
  • ⭕ A content statistic page (number of post in average per month/year, per type, etc…), not “user analytics”

❓ Maybe someday, but unlikely

  • ❓ Share a list of your favourite books
  • ❓ Add an easter egg
  • ❓ Search: Would require either Javascript or an 3rd party to selfhost, too complex for this blog, but may change?

❌ Won’t implement (but never say never)

  • ❌ Change Log: The git repository does this well already
  • ❌ Donation page: Thank you, but right now I don’t need donation. I write about what I want when I want, and want to stay free of being pressured to write.
  • ❌ Comments / Guestbook / (any UGC): I own this website, and only what I wrote will be displayed. I’ll happily read your messages / responses over email, webmentions, IRC or the Fediverse though :).
  • ❌ Now page: Too “high maintenance” type of page for me
  • ❌ Site Statistics: No tracking, no Javascript, no Cookie, ever.
