Welcoming a puppy and changing my daily routines

A bit more than a week ago, we welcomed home a new member in our household: a little female puppy called Vinnie (In France, each year you have to choose a name starting with a specific letter. It is weird but that’s how it is… And 2024 is letter V). If you want to see a picture, you can look at here. First day/night was quite tough as she became sick (I assume due to the stress) and threw up all night and we had to go to find a vet’ less than 24h after she arrived home on a Sunday… But since then it improved a lot and she found her marks quickly :-).

Of course, being really young, she is still learning a lot (to be clean, how to play without hurting, etc…). But it also made a big change in my daily routines. As said in my previous post, my partner had to leave just after we got her home. So for the past 10 days, I had to modify a lot my day. Waking up earlier to go out first thing in the morning, then come back to feed her and play, then going out again. Basically waking up almost 2h earlier than before. Also going out very often during my day to teach her to do her business outside. I’ve never been so much outside during work days, which is great too, forcing me to take breaks not seated behind my desk.

Last week was factorio gaming week, so I “didn’t have time for blogging” (understand: I was focusing all my free time on Factorio). But this week, working again, I’m trying to be 30/45min earlier than before in front on my laptop to start typing away blog post or code or other. It has been something I wanted to do for a while, using the morning routine to write or poc things around instead of just doing it at night. Never found the motivation / energy to actually wake up earlier than needed for work, but now I didn’t have a choice…

That’s why I’m publishing this post in the morning, which is unusual for me, but maybe that will become the new normal, who knows :]. I have a big backlog in my feed reader due to last week and also some interesting topic I didn’t write about for the bloguidien “challenge” that I may address. I also have some more technical posts in draft, started or not, that I should try to cover at some point.

We’ll see as well how it will go when my partner comes back this weekend, as she is an early bird… Maybe I’ll revert to my previous routine, but I hope not entirely. But who knows!

Anyway, welcome home Vinnie :).
